The Hepatology service at Sunshine Coast University Hospital provides comprehensive hepatology services to the population of the Sunshine Coast (450,000). There is a busy inpatient service which is supported by a ward based ambulatory care centre where day case procedures are provided. Outpatients are seen in clinics on the Sunshine Coast and Nambour campuses. There are three fibroscan machines available and outpatient work is supported by a nursing team comprising two Clinical Nurses and a Clinical Nurse Consultant. We offer a full range of management options for patients with hepatocellular cancer supported by a dedicated HCC nurse and systemic therapy is managed by the Hepatology team. The service benefits from a world class diagnostic and interventional radiology department that provides a full range of biliary and portal hypertension intervention.

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Unit at Sunshine Coast University Hospital manages a cohort of 1100 patients. We have a specialist IBD dietetic service, with a dedicated gastroenterology psychologist embedded in the service, and an outpatient and point of care intestinal ultrasound service. We are involved in pharmaceutical, and investigator led research studies and are a member of the ANZ IBD consortium. We also work closely with a medical multi-disciplinary IBD team including 3 colorectal surgeons, and GI radiologist.
