What's happening?

One of the hospital’s buildings (Block 1) is being demolished to allow for the creation of a new courtyard and patient drop-off zone adjacent to the final Emergency Department. Block 1 is located at the front of the hospital, on the corner of Hospital Road and Mapleton Road. Working hours for demolition works are Monday – Friday, between 6:30 am and 6:30 pm.

Construction activities

  • Structural demolition of the building (Block 1).

What to expect?

  • Significant increase in noise levels throughout the hospital during working hours
  • Noise and vibration may be felt throughout the facility and departments
  • Noise will be louder when entering the Emergency Department via the gantry
  • Council car park spaces on Hospital Road (in front of Block 1) are taken out of service
  • Increase in construction vehicles entering and exiting the hospital grounds
  • Scaffolding around Block 1.

Things to note

  • The hospital will remain open at all times during the demolition.
  • The demolition works will not impact the bus stop on Hospital Road.
  • There are a number of People with Disability (PWD) car parks across the campus including opposite the temporary Emergency Department patient drop off; in the multi-storey car park (paid); and in between the hospital and the Blood Bank.
  • Pedestrian access to the hospital will be available at all times. However, pedestrian access routes will change around Block 1. Please follow all signage and instructions for your safety.
  • Traffic control will be in place, when required, to advise road users of turning vehicles entering and exiting the hospital grounds.
