Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) has joined the DV Safe Phone initiative, which recycles and distributes mobile phones to victims of domestic and family violence.

Health service staff are encouraged to donate their old personal mobile phones to DV Safe Phone through drop off points at Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Nambour General Hospital.

SCHHS also donates some decommissioned mobile phones, or their parts, to DV Safe Phone.

Delivery Director Digital Health and Technology, Ashlea Jones said donated mobile phones and phone parts helped provide a lifeline to victims of domestic and family violence.

“Something as simple as a phone gives people access to support outside of the home; and we know that phones are often the first thing taken from victims of violence in the home,” Ms Jones said.

“Our SCHHS executive has committed to doing everything possible to eliminate domestic and family violence, and providing support to those whose lives are affected by it.

“We are pleased to support this fantastic initiative; it’s such an easy thing for staff to bring their old mobile phones to one of our collection points in their workplace.

“DV Safe Phone is making a real and practical difference for people who need a phone for their safety.”
