One of my favourite times of the year is welcoming the next generation of doctors and nurses to our health service. It always inspires me seeing the ambitious graduates ready to transform their years of training into personcentred care for our communities.
This year 76 medical interns joined the team at Sunshine Coast Health. The intern program is designed to foster learning and growth, while supporting the doctors through the first challenging year of their career.
We have also welcomed almost 200 nursing and midwifery graduates, with the new recruits rotating through all our facilities during their graduate year. You can get to know some of them in this edition of Bright .
I’m also proud to say our health service has formally commenced our work under the Child Safe Organisation Act, reinforcing our shared responsibility to ensure every child and young person who comes in contact with our service feels safe, respected and heard.
I have been equally encouraged by our strong performance results, with more care delivered, shorter waits for many patients, and continued growth in our virtual services, all made possible by the skill and dedication of our staff.
This edition of Bright captures some of that spirit. You’ll read about the comfort and connection Abby the therapy dog brings to patients and staff alike, and the exciting introduction of a new skin cancer surgery we have launched at Caloundra Health Service, which is a Queensland first.
We hope you enjoy reading this edition of Bright and learning more about the people, services and care that support our communities every day.
